One Sunday afternoon my daughter, who was 8 at the time, exhausted after an end-of-summer sleepover, fell asleep on the couch with her head in my lap. Not too long after she dozed off our cat Sugah decided to join her. With some very gentle movements and long arms I was able to snap a photograph of them and it has since been one of my favorites.
This is probably the last time my daughter fell asleep on me and Sugah has since passed over the Rainbow Bridge. A few weeks after she was gone I started this painting and it has taken me over two years to finish it. There were many stops as I was often uncertain of what the next move would be. But eventually I got there, with the peonies being the final touch, added in just the last couple of months.
This piece now hangs in our living room where I get to cherish this sweet memory every day. It is part of the Ephemera Collection.
